Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness Movie Review

Spoiler Free Review!

On November 4, 2016 the world was introduced to Stephen Strange who would later be known as the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. After a few eventful years, Doctor Strange finally has his sequel titled "Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness" and let me tell you, this movie is madness! I went and saw this movie with little expectations because of all the rumors and speculation going on and that ended up being a good way to view this film! Lets conjure up some magic and review the latest Marvel movie!

Like I always do on these reviews, lets look at the cast:

  • Director- Sam Raimi

  • Writer- Michael Waldron

  • Benedict Cumberbatch- Doctor Stephen Strange

  • Elizabeth Olsen- Wanda Maximoff/ The Scarlet Witch

  • Benedict Wong- Wong

  • Xochitl Gomez- America Chavez

  • Rachel McAdams- Dr. Christine Palmer

*There are other cast members but this is a spoiler free review so I won't put them down. :)

This film has director Sam Raimi written all over it. From the visuals to the cinematography and even the camera work screams early 2000's movie with a modern script and honestly, I love that! Raimi was given full control on what to do with this film and he made it like only Sam Raimi knows how. There is a bit or horror in the movie with some jump scares, there are action sequences that are awesome and there are those jaw-dropping moments that make the audience scream! Everything about the direction of the movie was great.

I listed out the actors that had a bigger role in this movie but overall the entire movie felt great in the sense that all the actors and actresses did a great job. I would, however, like to focus on the four big guns with Cumberbatch, Olsen, Wong and Gomez because those four stood out to me and rightfully so. Cumberbatch is a perfect Doctor Strange and he really brings the heat with this movie. You can feel his character grow and evolve and really take steps from his time in "Spider-Man: No Way Home". He knows the mistakes he's made and he is learning. Olsen might have had one of the absolute best acting performances ever in this movie and wow did she kill it! Her character as Wanda/ Scarlet Witch has been through some tough times and Olsen really tells that story in her scenes. Wong to me is the back bone of this movie and every scene he is in. I think Wong's character Wong is wise but also gets thrown into a lot of craziness that he wants no part in! Finally, the MVP of this film in my opinion is the young and wonderful Gomez. America Chavez is a brand new character with powers and abilities that we have never seen before and Gomez truly bring the character to life with her emotion and humor. She is going to have a huge role with Marvel moving forward!

The action in this movie was awesome and felt new to me. There are scenes that make your eyes get wide and you feel the intensity in the fighting. I felt that each action scene that we got was great and unique in its own way.

I don't have that many negatives about this movie but I do have some. I think the runtime should have been just a tad longer because this two hour and six minuet movie flew by! If you tacked on maybe 20 more minuets then I would be very satisfied. Some of the visuals are rough to see but that's going to happen with any movie that deals with sorcery and magic so it's not a huge knock on it. I liked the pacing of the movie, but I think there are some scenes that went to long and some that weren't long enough and therefor at times I couldn't connect to the scene that was being shown.

I will spend maybe one or two sentences on this topic but the surprises are amazing and few. If you go into thinking you will see a bunch of cameos, let's rethink that.

*TWO CREDIT SCENES. One being serious and the other is Marvel's goofy one.

Overall, this is a very solid movie. As I stated in my video review on my YouTube channel (TheKangReview), the floor for this should be a 7 and the ceiling is about an 8-8.5. I was into the movie and it was something different which is good! My grade for "Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness" is an 8/10!
