I'm a F***ing Superhero!- The Suicide Squad review!

You’ve done it again James Gunn. Another group of weird characters that no one cares about turned into fan favorites. Hello everyone, it’s me Christian giving y’all my first ever feature film review for The Suicide Squad (2021)! I have to clarify that it is the newer version of the comic book adaptation. If you’re here for the short version: WATCH IT. It’s amazing, violent, very well paced! For those that are interested in the nitty gritty details, stick around because I have a lot to say about this film.
Let us begin with the intro. James Gunn knew exactly how to capture the attention of audiences. We already know the premise of Task Force X: The U.S. government forces B Tier expendable villains that they can control into doing insanely dangerous missions for the protection of the country. Right then the movie kicks off into this wacky, out of context, adventure that is so damn enjoyable. Gunn’s ability to take characters that aren’t well known by the casual audience and make them fan favorites after 2 plus hours is unmatched. He MADE the Guardians of the Galaxy a household name and now his version of characters like Nanaue, Bloodsport, Ratcatcher II, and others will be too! He knows how to juggle characters and no one feels left out. The cast was spot on as well. The highlights were Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher II, and John Cena’s Peacemaker. My personal favorite was David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man because he gives a sort of a sad clown vibe more than anyone but rises up to be a badass superhero. It just warms my heart. The chemistry with the characters was so genuine as well. Ratcatcher II wants to be everyone’s friend, Peacemaker and Bloodsport have a frenemy relationship which is hilarious, and Harley Quinn is just a lovable force of chaos. Everyone gave their honest and best performances and that’s all fans ask for.
The plot was simple, as most Suicide Squad missions are, but the missions go off the rails because of unexpected factors. One of the many unexpected events of the film was in the beginning when one character conspired with enemy and it caused a bloody and violent firefight. That made it more difficult to carry out the original plan that everyone was prepared for. This premise of “expect the unexpected and dialing it to 11” with wacky characters is what makes The Suicide Squad so fun. I was sitting in the theater saying to myself, “this is such a badass movie!” One of the major aspects that I loved was how weird it was! It strays away from the normal “bad guy threatens to change the world” from projects like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow and move towards unorthodox ideas and heroes. That’s why WandaVision and Loki are revered for how outside of the box they are. Polka-Dot Man’s backstory was a perfect example of dark humor and fit well with Ratcatcher’s “pied piper” powers, and Peacemaker’s spearheaded sense of justice.
By the end, I was so satisfied that I immediately wanted to watch it again, and I did the next day! And I’m going to watch a third time and buy it on 4K! It’s THAT damn good. It’s so good that it gets a 9/10! I highly recommend it!
