Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Review

Back in 2020, "Sonic The Hedgehog" hit theaters and it was a masterpiece (IMO) and the end credit scene told us that we would be getting a sequel sometime soon. Well, fast forward to 2022 and finally we get "Sonic The Hedgehog 2"! This blue little hedgehog has been on some wild adventures and this one could potentially be his wildest! Let's review!
Like any other movie review I do on this website, we need to start with the cast:
Ben Schwartz (Voice)- Sonic
Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Voice)- Tails
Idris Elba (Voice)- Knuckles
Jim Carrey- Dr. Robotnik
James Marsden- Tom
Tika Sumpter- Maddie
Natasha Rothwell- Rachel
Shemar Moore- Randall
Adam Pally- Wade
Lee Majdoub- Agent Stone
The cast in this movie was so good and really told a great story. I think that Rothwell's Rachel was hilarious and it made the already funny film even funnier! I have a hot take and this could ruffle some feathers but I really do believe that this role as Dr. Robotnik is Jim Carrey's best work he has ever done! Yep, I said it...he absolutely kills it in this role and I think casting him was an A+ move. Another A+ move was getting Elba to voice the iconic Knuckles. It was a perfect fit.
I won't lie to you, I was very behind on the Sonic train as I only just watched the first film maybe in January of 2022...I know shame on me, but I immediately fell in love with the film and it gave me such great nostalgic feeling that I was hyped for the sequel. The first film felt like a movie with a video game character but the sequel felt just like a video game with the story, character, the action and even the banter between some characters reminded me of cut scenes from the game! Without spoiling anything, I think the story was so smooth with some very minor hiccups along the way. I felt connected to the characters and even cheered and laughed when those moments came up that I could! For someone who doesn't know the Sonic lore or the characters, this movie helps explain a lot and it even has flashbacks to the first film which helps. This movie is for everyone and I mean that. When Dom and I walked into the theater, we were in a row that had young kids, parents, teens and even elderly people! Finally, the end credit scene was mind blowing and I really hope the third film is just a fan fest for all lover of Sonic!
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and I think it is better than the first! The characters, story and nostalgic moments make it a joy to watch at any age! "Sonic The Hedgehog 2" gets a 8.5/10 from me!
