What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger? Review!

Spoiler Free Review!

Finally after months of waiting and waiting we finally have What If..? on Disney+! Today I am here to give my review on episode one "What If...Captain Carter Were the First Avenger" from the highly anticipated show, What If...?

Now, before I start my review on this episode I need to inform you that when What If..? was announced, I already made it my most anticipated show of them all. Yes, I had this show that was animated and confusing to some ahead of WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and even Loki! I love the style of animation they have for this series and I love the fact that some of the MCU actors are voicing their respective characters in this show. From Hayley Atwell voicing Peggy Carter to the late Chadwick Boseman who will voice T'Challa in this series, it gives this show that MCU feeling and for me as the viewer I love it. Now, let's get into the first episode!

Before we even see any action or animation, we get the incredible Marvel logo appear on our screen with all of our favorite MCU characters and then with great style the "Marvel Studios" change from 3D to animated and it was awesome! For episode one we have to take a trip down memory lane to Captain America: The First Avenger and remember the events that unfold from that movie. I hope this is a trend because I like the recap of events up until we get our first ripple in the multiverse. It was no surprise after seeing trailers, short clips and artwork from verified social media accounts that we would be seeing Peggy Carter as Captain Carter meaning she would be the one to take the Super Soldier Serum instead of skinny ole Steve Rodgers. I will be the first to say that I would love to see Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter in a live action MCU project and who knows, we just might (I realy hope we do)! The show was fantastic as an opener and it honestly was a fun ride seeing the new events unfold form one small decision. I am someone who values callbacks to other projects and cameos from other characters and we get that in this first episode and I hope it continues, but seeing Dum Dum Dugan, Bucky Barnes, and even Howard Stark be nice side characters in this show was great. The callbacks were also terrific, I mean from hearing lines from the movies be repeated and the show taking jabs at events that happened in the movie but not in the show mad me laugh and that was great to me. I also thought that the pacing was ok, not to slow and not to fast but just right for me. One issue that honestly I think a lot of people had was the timing of the show, 33 minuets and 45 seconds was the official runtime of this episode. I need these episodes to be at least 45 minuets long because I was left wanting more and yeah, I guess that's a good thing in retrospect.

Episode one of Marvel's What If...? titled "What If...Captain Carter Were The First Avenger" was a great start to this highly anticipated series and I cannot wait for the other episodes to drop but for me, it gets a 8/10!
